SUNYMEU has been taking place since 1988. It has operated under various names - SUNYMEC, SUNYNYS, SUNYLUX, NYSLUX, EUROSIM, and SUNYMEU.
SUNYMEU was the first intercollegiate Model EU organized in the US. As a testament to the success of teaching the EU through intercollegiate simulations, there are now several such Model EUs operating in both Canada and the US, some of these for over a decade. These intercollegiate Model EUs include the Pittsburgh, Midwest, MidAtlantic, Eurosim, and California Model EUs, most of which maintain websites with current information for delegations. The European Union Studies Association has a teaching and learning interest section which organizes panels about Model EU simulations at EUSA's biennial conference.
